I was once walking to my friend’s house. A black cat then crossed my path and sat on my path! Did I walk around it? No! Because of the ACL, I didn’t feel inclined to change my path. I walked up to the cat and pet it, then continued on!

Thank you Australian Cat Ladies, you have corrected my ways and I appreciate all that you’ve done for me!

Love your work! Maybe some moderation is in order though? Have seen a number of comments attacking/stereotyping and vilifying christians… Just as uncool as Christians vilifying gays….

  3. This is amazing! You guys are awesome. Much better than the old ACL. You must also have control of their emails that were on this domain so they can’t push their agenda for a little while. Well done.

This is actually pretty sad and low… I absolutely love the hypocrisy of people like you. You stand up for equality and wanting to be heard, but you silence and ridicule beliefs of others. You go out of your way to pull stunts like this. I am a Christian who supports Gay marriage and equality… my friends know this and I stand by them, against other Christians that oppose it… including my own family. However how do you expect me to feel when I come to a website about Christianity to find it hacked, ridiculed, etc?
People like you have no respect for the beliefs of others, but you want us to respect your beliefs, rights, etc? And when they don’t… you rally, lobby, pull the “homophobic” card – which is absolutely bullshit by the way, people don’t have fear, they just don’t like it… I hate Indian food, doesn’t mean I hate Indians or I’m an Indiaphobe and you can’t force me to like it as you do with everyone who opposes your beliefs. Being gay is turning into a religion and you are all forcing your beliefs onto others… you are no better than the Christians you oppose.
Congratulations for setting a fine example for others.

I had a little trouble finding the words, and I’m still not sure they’re the words I really want to use, but: the problem with the original comment is that it’s not observing the power structure that currently exists. Christianity has a lot of power, and that power has been used to oppress and ridicule others who don’t believe or fit into a certain way. The scooping up of this URL is a move against that. Do you understand? It’s a group that’s been oppressed, making a move against the group in power that’s been responsible for that. So the comparisons you’re making are entirely unfair.

Nobody is saying all Christians should just disappear (and if they are, they shouldn’t be) but we are allowed to make this form of peaceful protest. If you’re one of the “good ones” then you have nothing to worry about, and I politely ask you to shush.

Taking this domain name out of spite and satire is just childish. What kind of statement does this intend to make? People are backing this website because they find the whole situation funny… and yes, I can see the humor in it honestly 🙂

But my belief has always been one of peace. By making a rebuttal against this domain, you have taken a stand against all Christians. How do I know this? Because I personally NEVER visited the site prior to this… I do not care what they stand for… I do not care for their political views or beliefs… all I saw was another attack on a Christian movement because, from what I gather, they did not support gay marriage or something else this site is in favor of.

What is stopping this Cat Lovers group from doing the same thing to another Christian website? By promoting the idea, you have given them the right and permission to do this over and over again… all this positive publicity, not because the message is correct, but let’s face it, losing a domain name to a group that oppose everything it stands for is funny… that doesn’t mean it’s right!

I spoke to friends of mine about this topic… a few of my gay friends who would like to marry one day… funnily enough, they agreed with me. This website is actually bad publicity for gay marriage rights. You are attacking another organisation because you want to protest and be heard… how is that in ANY way right?

As the owner of a very large website development and internet marketing company myself, what’s stopping me from asking my staff to develop and optimise 100 new anti-gay marriage websites, simply out of protest? The answer is simple… my ethics stand in the way. For someone who was raised by a priest, but still has acceptance and stands up for the rights of others, I feel I have every right to stand up and say I’m offended that you would attack a Christian domain name. This was targeted towards a Christian organisation – it didn’t target somerandomname.org because their opinion doesn’t matter to you.

Protesting like this is simply pathetic. I’m sure the developers of this website all had a good laugh and are happy with the result… but how are the Christian’s supposed to feel about this? Do you honestly think they’ll agree with the actions made upon this domain name? One must wonder how many equality websites will be attacked out of protest by Christians as a direct result… you are provoking them to start a fight against you… who’s struggling for power now?
Funnily enough, if a Christian group did that, I’d still be against it.

A little off topic, but I’m glad John Lennon isn’t alive in this day and age.

I don’t see ACL as being about being gay. It’s about pushing back against the Fred Nile-types who want to use Christianity to impose legal constraints on me having control of my body and my life.

In the USA a female teacher recently got the sack from her Catholic school because her mother’s obituary included the name of this teacher’s female partner, and someone noticed and complained to the school, who sacked her. She was not forcing her beliefs on others at all, but her Catholic employers chose to use their power to negatively affect her life because of their beliefs.

Groups like Australian Christian Lobby do really underhand things to prevent desperate women having pregnancy terminations, like pretending to be a “pregnancy advice service” when they are actually anti-abortion guilt-trippers. Whilst I can see you do have a point, this sort of “Christian Lobby” behaviour is a much lower act than anything the Cat Lovers are ever likely to do.
